foiled's EXTENSION CARE GUIDE
Washing
Extensions make it possible to go longer between washes, 1-3 times a week is ideal. I recommend a moisture based, nourishing shampoo & conditioner to keep extensions soft and long-lasting. My go-to is LANZA’s Keratin Healing Oil shampoo & conditioner.
Brushing
Brush through extensions 2-3 times a day, especially before wetting them. Using a detangling brush, start at the bottom and work your way up.
K-TIPS: Only lightly brush over top of bonds with a k-tip specific hairbrush. Tilt head and brush thoroughly below bonds. Use your fingers to manually separate bonds every few days.
WEFTS: Do not brush above wefts. Thoroughly brush below weft and in between rows.
Styling
Avoid high pony tails or any excessive over-directing of the extensions for 2 weeks. Avoid tight or slick back styles as much as possible to avoid excess tension on your hair. Never use anything above 350 degrees with styling tools. Always use heat protectant. A couple of our favorites are LANZA KHO smooth down spray, and LANZA neem plant silk serum. Avoid heat at the bonds of K-Tips at all times.
Products
Always use sulfate & paraben free products. Extensions need moisture, I suggest a leave in conditioner after each time you shampoo. My favorite is UNITE 7 seconds leave in conditioner. Our biggest advice to keeping extensions looking and feeling brand new is to use a deep conditioning mask once a week. We suggest Redken’s All Soft Deep Treatment Mask.
Sleeping
Do not sleep with wet hair, it could cause your extensions to mat, tangle, and create unwanted frizz. Do not Sleep in a top bun or tight pony. This will put excess tension on your hair and could potentially cause damage. Sleep with it down, in braids, or a low pony. A silk pillow case can help even more to ensure soft, silky hair in the morning.
Summer Maintenance
Avoid chlorine on your extensions at all times, as it can cause discoloration. If swimming in salt water, wet your hair down before hand and add a leave in conditioner to help to protect your extensions. The wrong sunscreen can create unwanted pink/orange tones. We suggest a mineral sunscreen: specifically CeraVe hydrating mineral sunscreen.
